TCHO Organic 99% Unsweetened Baking Drops 8oz Bag

Perfect for baking, cooking – and snacking! 99% cacao is composed of remarkable organic, fair trade cacao from both Ecuador and Peru. Lacking the typical bitterness and astringency found in unsweetened chocolate, this blend is insanely rich and chocolatey, accented with subtle roasted nut undertones and a slight hint of figs and espresso. This is the taste of pure cacao - no added flavors or sugar.

TCHO Organic 99% Unsweetened Baking Drops 8oz Bag is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great snack for dieters Love these little critters- I bought a bag on a whim and am so glad I did. They go great with a bowl of fresh strawberries for that naughty chocolate-covered strawberry taste without the sugar! I usually have 5 or 6 critters with a piece of fruit for breakfast and my chocolate cravings are subdued. Depending on the fruit pairing, they can get a little bitter. They don't melt terribly easily, so I can stick them in a sandwich baggie and put them in my purse, and know that by the time I get to the office they won't be a gooey mess, even in Texas heat. Very smooth. I primarily taste notes of espresso. Haven't done any cooking or baking with them yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

What is the shelf life of both opened and unopened bag?

Asked by: Laura
Hello Laura, Thank you for your question and glad you asked. The shelf life for a sealed bag is 18 months. If the 8oz bag has already been opened and stored properly, the shelf life can last up to 18 months as well. Please keep the opened bag away from any food products that might contain a strong smell or odor and keep in a dry, heat protected storage area-away from sunlight. I hope this information helps, thanks again!

Hi Gale, We use 100% liquor in the recipe for our 99% but there is that 1% left because there can be sugar residue in the system. We do not add any additional sugar. Thank you! TCHO Customer Service

It would be really cool if you could link from your products to any recipes that might call for it as an ingredient.  I picked up a bag of these at the store assuming they would be edible, but they are a tad bitter for my taste.  Recipes?

Asked by: Paul
Hello, We do have a recipe section on our website. I am linking to our Chocolate Espresso Cookie recipe at http://www.tcho.com/recipe/tchocolate-espresso-cookies/ which includes the 99% chocolate you have mentioned. On the left hand side you will see other recipes as well. Hope this helps! Best, TCHO Customer Service

Do the ingredients include any gluten, grains, dairy, corn, peanuts, rice, soy, sugar (sugar in any form or type), or artifical sweetners? Do the ingredients include any type of added fat (other than fat naturally occurring in cacao)?

Asked by: Pat T
There is no wheat or gluten in our 99%. Only our Strawberry Rhubarb Pie bar has wheat in it because of the pie crust. There is no dairy in our 99%. All of our milk chocolate product has dairy -Classic, Cacao, Mokaccino, Tchunky Tchotella, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and our Gelactic Gelato dark chocolate bar. No corn, no peanuts, no rice, no artificial sweeteners in any of our products. We use cane sugar in all our product that contains sugar- except nibs, cocoa powder, 99%. There is no soy lecithin in our 99%. Most of our products contain soy lecithin but the amount is very small, untraceable, it is used as emulsifier. We do not add any fat to our product other than cocoa butter-natural fat.

How much caffeine is in a serving of TCHO 99% dark chocolate critters? About how many critters are there per serving?

Asked by: Vanessa
Hello there, According to the Chocolate Information Center, sponsored by Mars Inc., a 50-gram piece of dark chocolate (about the size of your average chocolate bar) will yield between 10 and 60 milligrams of caffeine, while an average 150 ml cup of coffee can yield up to 175 milligrams. 40 grams of dark chocolate contains the same amount of caffeine as one cup of decaffeinated coffee, and yet it will stimulate sensitive individuals. A cup of hot chocolate usually contains about 4 or more milligrams of caffeine, which about 1/20 that of a cup of regular coffee. Hope that helps!
